The Ministry of Education seeks to achieve its goals by granting women their full right to empowerment and participation. This aims to support the national development and achieve the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, where the Ministry is working to give women the right to free and distinctive education to achieve appropriate and effective educational outcomes to serve the country and its development future.
The Ministry has also increased the percentage of women’s participation in all educational sectors and at all functional levels. It has achieved this by investing in women’s energies and capabilities, expanding work options for them, increasing their participation to ensure equal opportunities for both sexes, and assuming senior leadership positions in educational sectors of all kinds and levels, up to the positions of Ministry Undersecretaries and General Managers.
The ministry was not only satisfied with giving women the opportunity to confront the internal public but also believed in the capabilities and competencies of women to face the external public as well. As a result, an official spokeswoman for the Ministry of Education for General Education was assigned, as the first woman to occupy this position at the level of a ministry in the Kingdom.
In this regard, the Ministry of Education has directed the implementation of a number of educational and development programs aimed at improving women's working conditions in the educational field. The Ministry had earlier announced the commencement of an initiative to strengthen professional and educational practices for female teachers as part of the National Program for the Development of Education, with the goal of removing them from professional isolation. It has provided them with a series of lectures, seminars, and workshops in all of the Kingdom's regions and governorates.
The ministry has also presented qualitative initiatives to support women’s leadership in the fields of research, innovation, and development, which have contributed to an increase in the rate of classified scientific publications by 91% during the years from 2019 to 2021. In addition, the citation rate of scientific papers by female researchers increased to 52%, especially in the health and medical sciences, engineering sciences, technology, and computer sciences. This initiative comes among a number of initiatives and services specific to women, including scholarships, employment, continuing education, eradicating illiteracy, and so on.
