The Ministry of Education has identified 12 major areas and 25 sub-specialized areas within the national priorities in research, development, and innovation to assist in the formulation of research strategies for national, industrial bodies, and universities.
The specialized workshops, meetings, and scientific seminars to collect and analyze data and implementing the local and international normative studies, have resulted in identifying national priorities that should be the focus of researchers' attention and a source of inspiration for universities.
More than 25 ministries and industrial and private sectors, in addition to the projects and programs of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, have participated in defining the national priorities in research, development, and innovation to organize the scientific efforts in the universities and research and innovation centers, and direct research and innovation towards bridging the gap of national development needs through scientific and research production to achieve the maximum objectives in these areas in line with the global trends for research and innovation.
The priorities have included 12 research areas falling under more than 52 sub-specialized research areas, in the fields of renewable energy, production and water management, defense and security, space, Hajj and Umrah, sustainability in construction and reconstruction, modern technologies in the field of transportation and logistics, economic and social development, information and communication technology and other areas; such as environmental and agricultural sustainability, public health, mining, oil and gas, petrochemicals and refining.
